See how a high-volume firearms merchant automated specialized fulfillment, launched a secondary headless storefront, and transformed the buyer journey to drive web sales.

Overcoming Fulfillment Friction

Lafayette Shooters is a prominent firearms and outdoor gear merchant. Their previous checkout process placed a heavy burden on the consumer to navigate strict government firearm restrictions. Buyers had to locate an approved Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer, ensure the destination's license was valid, and coordinate the transfer themselves. This created significant friction and led to high cart abandonment. Additionally, strict advertising restrictions on firearms hindered their ability to market their extensive apparel and outdoor accessories inventory effectively.

Primary Objectives:

Automate
the FFL dealer selection and verification process to create a frictionless checkout.
Revamp
the main website navigation and faceted search to improve product discoverability.
Engineer
a custom data solution to display in-store availability badging accurately.
Launch
a secondary storefront dedicated to non-restricted items to unlock new advertising opportunities.

Specialized Tools for Advanced Operations

MoJo Active proactively intercepted these hurdles by customizing the BigCommerce architecture and introducing an automated compliance application. The engagement expanded from checkout optimization to a complete multi-store ecosystem upgrade.

Key components of the solution included:

Automated Fulfillment Routing:
Integrated Master FFL to transform the checkout. Customers simply enter their zip code to select from a pre-approved, automatically verified list of local FFL dealers. The application handles all background communication, license verification, and transfer tracking behind the scenes.
Headless Architecture for Advertising:
Engineered a completely new, headless BigCommerce storefront (Lafayette Adventure Co.) using Catalyst and Makeswift. This dedicated site houses apparel and gifts, allowing the business to run targeted promotional campaigns without triggering firearm advertising restrictions.
Advanced Inventory Badging:
The existing data system struggled to separate total inventory from in-store availability at the product variant level. Ryzome, a custom middleware application developed by MoJo Active, was implemented to read inventory data, apply business logic, and dynamically display accurate "available in store" badges across the site.
Cross-Store Data Synchronization:
Ryzome also powers the headless storefront by actively syncing product categories from the standard BigCommerce environment directly to the Catalyst architecture every 30 minutes.

Delivering Measurable Growth

The new ecommerce architecture eliminated major purchasing roadblocks and established a robust foundation for scalable sales.

Frictionless Purchasing:
The Master FFL integration removed the burden of compliance from the buyer. Automated dealer validation and transparent communication significantly improved the checkout experience.
Unlocked Marketing Channels:
By separating non-restricted items into the Lafayette Adventure Co. storefront, the business can now freely advertise its apparel and outdoor gear to a broader audience.
Maximized Findability:
Revamped the main navigation and upgraded faceted search, pulling products out of hidden menus, ensuring shoppers can easily locate specific items and see what's currently in stock.
Immediate Sales Impact:
Transforming the buyer journey from a frustrating manual task into a streamlined, guided experience turned an underperforming storefront into a highly active sales engine.

Fueling Ongoing Expansion

By advising with transparency and delivering architectural upgrades beyond the initial scope, this engagement evolved into an ongoing retainer. Dedicated teamwork continues to drive new initiatives, with future phases mapped out to maximize revenue and further refine the web experience for Lafayette Shooters' customers.
